Breast Cancer Awareness Month Event Greater Ridgecrest YMCA

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. To show our support, the Greater Ridgecrest YMCA will be holding our sixth annual Gather for a Cure event on Saturday, October 5. We will be hosting a walk at 9am with events to follow at 10am.

Join other survivors and supporters for a day of comradery, story sharing and fellowship. This event is FREE and open to the entire community. We’ll take a walk, run or ride in Taylor Park. Afterwards, our community partners will discuss common Breast Cancer FAQs.

For example, can physical activity reduce the risk of Breast Cancer?

Exercise has been proven to give your immune system a boost. Plus, it keeps your weight in check.  With about 30 minutes a day of exercise, a woman can begin to lower her risk.

Experts estimate that 1 in 8 women will get breast cancer. Take time to learn more about breast cancer and the steps you can take to protect yourself by visiting the National Breast Cancer Foundation.

Where can I find a cancer support group?

The National Breast Cancer Foundation, Inc., has breast support group information. Plus, the LIVESTRONG at the Y program is great place to start and meet new friends who are in recovery and need like-minded friends to reduce stress and anxiety.
