YMCA Pedaling for Parkinson's participant sits on a cycling bike

Pre-pandemic, Patrick Winkelman attended the Pedaling for Parkinson’s class regularly for a better quality of life.

The Greater Palm Harbor YMCA hopes to start its Pedaling for Parkinson’s program later this year.

Pre-pandemic, Patrick Winkelman attended the class regularly for a better quality of life. The stationary cycling group was meeting three times a week, for 60 minutes before the health crisis started last year.

"A lot of times they come in and they have a lot of serious tremors and by the time they finish their class in 60 minutes they have fewer tremors," explains Director of Health & Wellness Ginny Lisle who started the program.

Patrick was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease more than three  years ago. He says the class has helped a lot.

"It gives you more energy. You think because you are exercising you would be tired afterward, but it gives you more energy for the whole day. To continue your normal activities. Helps you with mental energy too, keeps your brain clear," Patrick shares.
